          Regional Passport Office Chennai

                                                                     The Regional Passport Office (RPO) was first established in Chennai in the year 1955. During that time, it was located at George Town and was later shifted to Government owned premises of Shastri Bhavan in the year 1966. The Passport Office of Madras was initially taking care of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry and also the neighboring States of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. However, in the year 1976, separate Passport Offices were established for all the three states. Presently, the districts which come under the jurisdiction of Chennai Passport Office are:

Tatkal Services:

Passports for the application submitted under Tatkaal Scheme (Fresh passport) will be issued on the Fifth Working Day.

Passports for the Reissue cases submitted under Tatkal will be issued on the third working day.

Miscellaneous Services:

Applications for services of (i) ECNR, (ii) Change of Address, (iii) Deletion of Child's name (iv) Inclusion of Spouse Name will be  accepted  on all working days between 9.30 A.M  and 12.00 noon and the passports will be dispatched by speed post after service on the same day in the afternoon if the passport was issued by RPO, Chennai.

Acceptance of replies in respect of defective applications:

     Applicants desirous of submitting replies/documents in response to the letters received from office can appear in person and submit them at the enquiry counter during afternoon also on all working days.

Faded / Defective Passports

Passports issued by RPO Chennai several years ago and in the laminated pages will be reissued without collecting any fee if the replacement booklets are issued without any change in the entries made in the faded passport. The time taken for issue of such replacement booklet in normal course is 15 days. Applicants requiring replacement booklet in lieu of faded passport in 3 days are, however, required to pay Tatkaal fee of Rs.1500/-

If the replacement booklets in lieu of faded passports are to be issued with some other services like ECNR, Change of Address etc, then a fee of Rs.300/- for each such service is to be remitted. The time taken for issue of such replacement booklets in the normal course is 15 days.
